Bow Ties Are Cool, Are you?

Bow ties are cool, but wearing one doesn't automatically put you in that category of coolness just because you're wearing a bow tie.  There are a few things that need to align to make the person wearing a bow tie look cool.

This article isn't to say that only a select few should wear bow ties but rather to provide some guidance and tips on how to look good when wearing a bow tie.

There's a time and a place for everything,  bow ties look great for formal events, and even casual events. If you're looking for attention or just feel like adding something fun to your outfit to a dress down event you can definitely do so. The key is how you carry the bow tie with your whole outfit. Most importantly being comfortable wearing one. If you're out somewhere and can't keep your right hand off your neck or awkwardly trying to adjust the strap non-stop, then don't bother! Trust me, people are going to notice this. If people were to talk about you (silently) at an event, you want them to refer to you as that cool guy who's wearing a bow tie, not that guy who looks awkward with a bow tie.

Depending on the color of your outfit, contrasting your bow tie and pocket square against your suit color helps to express the completeness of your outfit and portrays you know how to combine all your accessories to complete the full package outfit.

Fabric and material matters. If your bow tie is of leather material, don't wear a leather coat, it's just too much all at once. It's easy to match a cotton made bow tie for an event or even for a casual wear. Silk bow ties are best for weddings, work Christmas party, New Year's eve dinner, etc. Design matters too, if you're out on Friday night to party, then a printed or a bow tie as bright as the sun works if you're feeling flashy that day. However if it's an event out with coworkers, you may want to opt for a simple color, not necessarily a plain bow tie. Something stylish yet simple with class.

Just keep in mind: you can't wear everything you have all at once:) You can look in-fashion without putting too much or wearing too much. Blend yourself in with your outfit, be comfortable with it. There's a thousand words to say about a man that knows how to carry himself. Of course what's inside is far more important than what's on the outside, but before you can attract people to get to know you, you have to nail it on the outside. This is so true in so many occasions: first date, meeting your girlfriend's parents for the first time, speaking at an event, job interviews! And so much more! You'll never have a second chance to create a good first impression. Remember to stay simple, stay classy and stay cool.
